COOP – Albertslund

A desire for a more automated process meant optimisation and savings

During a long preliminary process, Danmatic, together with COOP in Albertslund, investigated possibilities and solutions for a more automated process for unpacking frozen dough elements.

COOP faced a newly established bakery, where the desire was to automate production so that the number of hours worked by employees was limited and even employee-saving.

Optimised process

When the Tray feeder has automatically placed the tray onto the conveyor, and the Paper Unit has placed the paper on the tray, the employees are reay to place the frozen dough pieces onto the trays. The trays continue at a brisk pace towards the automatic Tray handling system.

The Tray handling system consists of a Tray handling robot and double conveyor with an elevator. The system automatically empties and fills rack trolleys with a capacity of up to 250 trays per hour.

Uniformity

A crucial focus area in today’s production is saving hours and hands, but another critical parameter is the uniformity of the finished product.

Bringing more automated processes into production means that products are made faster and handled under the same conditions throughout production, all of which contribute to better uniformity in the finished products.

When products are ready for sale in shops, customers must have an identical product experience every time. Variations in size, shape and colour are not optimal and will be associated with fluctuations in product quality in the eyes of the customer, hence reducing the product’s brand value.

A very manual, repetitive process is obvious to automate, which is why we had to build a solution together.”
Michael Poulsen, COOP Albertslund

A good working environment increases well-being

Employee satisfaction and health are inextricably linked, and COOP, like all other companies, focuses on a good working environment for its employees. Manual handling and/or lifting is the cause of most musculoskeletal injuries.

The injuries can be accidents, sudden lifting injuries or wear and tear injuries that occur after working for a long time with manual handling of heavy trays with products to and from rack trolleys. COOP’s new automatic tray handling system from Danmatic relieves staff of these heavy lifts in poor ergonomic postures, ensuring less manual handling in favour of a more automated process for the benefit of all.
